We are an organisation dedicated to help and work towards the people in need. We work for orphaned or abandoned children, or children whose families are in need. We give these children the opportunity to build lasting relationships within a family. Apne Log believes in giving a holistic environment to those in need, and this is based on four basic and fundamental requirement of a being, which we try to inculcate in our approach of building relationships with them, these are:
- Each child needs a mother (or a primary nurturer).
- A child has the most natural way to live when surrounded by siblings.
- A child must have an abode which he/she can call their own home.
- A supportive environment.
We enable children to live according to their own culture and religion, and to be active members of the community. We help children to recognise and express their individual abilities, interests and talents. We ensure that children receive the education and skills training they need to be successful and contributing members of society. We believe in community living, and cater to societal and developmental needs of our society’s most vulnerable section of children and youth. We establish facilities and programmes that aim to strengthen families and prevent the abandonment of children. We join hands with community members to provide education and health care, and respond to emergencies.
As an independent non-governmental social development organization:
- We take action for children in need of care and protection.
- We respect varying religions and cultures, and we work in communities where our mission can contribute to development.
- We work in the spirit of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and we promote these rights through our flagship programmes, namely the Family Based Care and the Family Strengthening Programme.
- With the Apne Log concept, our organization has pioneered a family approach to the long-term care of orphaned and abandoned children in India.
